Ethos

The children are always the first priority. Every child has the right to feel happy, safe and valued in caring and supportive surroundings. Our values are built on mutual trust and respect for all - pupils, parents and staff alike. It is our aim that every member of the school community shares this ethos, and that each person is treated fairly and well.
Our successful team of experienced staff ensures a high level of teaching and care, and we employ a variety of teaching methods to cater for the boys' different learning styles. The curriculum is matched to the individual needs of the pupils, building on what the children already know and can do. Every child has equal access to the full curriculum. Well-planned, purposeful activities are created with the effective intervention of practitioners, and the children also engage in activities which they themselves initiate and carry through. We provide a bright, clean, stimulating and well-organised environment, which allows the children to select and use appropriate learning equipment and materials.

The school's behaviour policy is designed to ensure that all members of the school can live and work together in a supportive way. It aims to help children grow into positive, responsible and increasingly independent members of the school community. We reward good behaviour, as we believe that this will develop a culture of kindness and co-operation. Our policy and practice is designed to actively promote good behaviour, rather than merely deter anti-social behaviour. We expect parents to support their child's learning, and to co-operate with the school. We try to build an effective dialogue between the home and the school, and we inform parents immediately if we have concerns about their child's welfare or behaviour.

The school does not tolerate bullying of any kind. If we discover that an act of bullying or intimidation has taken place, we take immediate steps to stop any further occurrences of such behaviour. We do everything in our power to ensure that all children attend school free from fear. In very rare circumstances, the only appropriate response to a child's behaviour will be to impose an exclusion from the school community. Only the Principal has the power to exclude a pupil from school, which may be a temporary measure or a permanent exclusion. If the Principal imposes an exclusion, he informs the parents immediately, citing the reason. At the same time, the Principal makes it clear to the parents that they can, if they wish, appeal against the decision. The school informs the parents how to make such an appeal.

Parents may request copies of our full behaviour management policy, our policies regarding bullying, child protection, and health and safety, and the number of exclusions imposed, from the school's administration office at any time.
