Structure
The school is structured into Early Years, comprising Nursery and Reception, and the Upper School of Year One and Year Two. Entry intake is normally to Nursery, for three rising four year olds, and Reception for four rising five year olds. Occasional places are available in Years One and Two, as and when vacancies arise. The doors open at 8.30am, although the playground is supervised from 8.15am. Pupils are welcomed into their classrooms, and the register is taken at 9.00am. We have a substantial playground where the boys have staggered morning breaks of fifteen minutes. The lunch break is an hour long, and is taken in the hall in year groups. Boys are supervised by class teachers and assistants during this time, and good manners are encouraged at all times. Lessons end at 3.15pm for Reception classes, and 3.30pm for the rest of the school. Nursery finishes at 12.00 noon, and optional themed afternoon sessions are offered for those Nursery parents who wish their child to take advantage of further structured play. These sessions end at 3.10pm. A range of afternoon clubs is offered by the teachers. These are extra-curricular and their content depends upon the specialist interests and expertise of the teachers involved. These clubs run from 3.40-4.40pm, and are very popular, and since numbers have to be restricted, pupils are accepted on a first come first served basis. A weekly lunch time chess club is available for Years One and Two. We also offer a daily ‘late club', which runs until 5pm, and which can be booked on an ad hoc basis up until the end of the teaching day.
