Further Information
Years One & Two (5 - 7 years old)
Boys move automatically from Reception into Year One, where they work within the structure of the National Curriculum, which extends the good work of the Foundation Stage. Throughout Year One and Year Two, all traditional subject areas are taught. The boys focus on Literacy and Numeracy each day, with all other subjects taught through termly topics. The boys are expected to be independent, coming to the classrooms by themselves and taking responsibility for their own belongings. As they move into Year Two, the responsibilities increase, as the boys are expected to act as role models to the younger boys. We have a head and a deputy head boy each term, sports captains, prefects, librarians and special helpers. The aim is to promote self-esteem, good behaviour and develop the boys into well-rounded members of our school community. During Year Two we prepare the boys for transfer to their preparatory schools. We meet with parents regularly to ensure that the correct choices for schools are made. We aim to make the examination and transition procedure as smooth as possible, and our extremely qualified and experienced staff is well prepared to support both the boys and the parents through the process. All of the Year One and Two classes are taught by qualified teachers, and are ably assisted by classroom assistants, who work across all the classes in their designated year groups. Music, French and PE are all taught by specialist teachers, and all boys take part in school productions, choral or dramatic, usually timed for the end of each term.
