Head’s Welcome

Welcome to the Falcons Pre-Prep. We are a leading independent day school for boys aged 3 – 7 (Pre-Reception through to Year 2) based in Chiswick, London.  Founded in 1956 as Faulkner House, our mission is to prepare young boys for competitive preparatory schools in London and to ensure a successful future of learning.

The core values of our school are Courage, Curiosity and Care and we are proud that every boy who leaves the Falcon’s Pre-Prep displays these values in all that he does.

From the moment you walk through the blue door, you can hear the buzz of happy, confident boys. We foster a love of learning by offering a broad, balanced and challenging curriculum suited to the interests and natural curiosity of little boys.

As both EYFS specialists and educators of boys, our teachers understand how boys learn and their specific needs at different stages of their maturity. Due to being a boys-only school, we are able to offer a bespoke curriculum that taps into the best ways of engaging with our boys and ensuring that they are continually learning.  In support of this, physical activity, through sport or practical lessons, is an important part of a Falcons Boy’s everyday schedule.

Life at The Pre-Prep

We are a bustling and energetic school with a very positive and happy atmosphere, offering wrap-around care from 7.45am – 6pm every day, with all lunch and snacks included.  We have a thriving after-school club with many exciting clubs and activities for the boys to take part in which are included in our fees.   Holiday Clubs are also available, and are run by members of staff during the major holidays for a small fee.

The boys arrive at school each morning excited to get to class and are greeted warmly at the gate with a firm handshake and a hearty ‘good morning’. Being a traditional yet modern school we have a healthy combination of these two elements. Our boys are taught to respect each other and their community whilst we give them the confidence and self-esteem to question and interact with each other as well as with adults. With our small class sizes and a whole school adult ratio of 1:6, we are able to make sure that every boy is learning to their full potential whilst being stretched and being taught to think outside the box.

All of the boys are taught by qualified and highly skilled teachers, and are ably assisted by classroom assistants who work across all the classes in their designated year groups. Music, French, PE, Games and ICT are all taught by specialist teachers and are a definite highlight of the weekly timetable.  All boys participate in school sporting fixtures, class assemblies, productions, choral or dramatic, usually timed for the end of each term.

During the school day, boys are also able to take private music lessons which are an additional charge.

Pre-Reception

Pre-Reception provides the first and most important steps in learning for boys aged 3 and 4 and is an integral part of the Falcons Pre-Prep, playing an important role in contributing to the culture and ethos of the whole school, which creates our family-like atmosphere.

Attendance at our Pre-Reception guarantees automatic entry into Reception and we were delighted that the most recent ISI report awarded us Outstanding in all categories.

All Pre-Reception children attend 5 mornings: 8.30am to 12.00 noon. This includes a weekly Forest School session led by our Head of Pre-Reception who is also a qualified Forest School practitioner. Breakfast Club is available from 7.45am.  Afternoon sessions are available 5 days a week and boys are encouraged to attend at least 3 full days by the end of the summer term to prepare them for the following year in Reception. The afternoon sessions end at 3.10 pm. After school care is also available until 6.00pm.

Leaving at 7+

Approximately 60% of our boys leave us in Year 2 to transfer to the Falcons Prep school in Richmond.

For other boys, we help to prepare them for the highly competitive 7+ exams, meeting and consulting with parents on a regular basis to ensure that the correct choices for schools are made.

We aim to make the transition procedure as smooth as possible, with our extremely experienced staff preparing and supporting both boys and parents through the process.

Admissions

The Falcons Pre-Prep’s main intake is at Pre-Reception and Reception level, aged three and four, with a fewer number of places available in Key Stage 1.  All candidates would be invited for an assessment in the classroom situation before being offered a place. Assessments are in Maths and English and boys are also given the opportunity to join in fun group activities. References from current school are also requested. As we are linked to The Falcons Prep school in Richmond, once you have been registered at the Pre-Prep your son will gain preferential entry to the Prep School in Year 3.  We also offer a sibling priority policy.

For parents wishing to register their son, the first step is to complete the contact form by clicking HERE.  We will then be in touch to offer a 1-1 online call with our Head, Liz McLaughlin or a personal tour of the school.  Following this, we will send you a Registration Form, which should be completed and returned to the office with the appropriate registration fee and a copy of your son’s birth certificate. You will then be offered a place or placed on our waiting list for the relevant year and entry level (from Pre-Reception up to and including Year 2). The process of an offer of a place is made from approximately sixteen months prior to the September entry date and places are allocated on sibling priority and order of registration. We may contact you prior to this to establish your current level of interest.

You can register your child at any age, but we will only accept your registration if we feel that you have a reasonable chance of receiving an offer. We do not register unborn children, and, surprisingly, late registrations can find themselves securing a place, since occasional places can arise even during the prior summer term.

Fees

Our fees are very competitive and include lunch, trips, majority of after-school clubs and care from 8.00am to 5pm.  Additional fees are charged for early morning drop-off at 7.45am and from 5pm to 6pm.

Early Years Funding is available for all boys up to and including the term they turn 5 which can typically reduce the fees by approximately £850 per term.
