Our philosophy is to promote the physical, spiritual and social well-being of all children at The Falcons School for Boys. In all areas of the curriculum, our teaching will endeavour to provide the skills necessary to develop responsibility, independence, ownership, a sense of belonging and the development of positive attitudes. All members of the Falcons School for Boys are part of a positive and supportive learning environment.
The subject is taught throughout the school each week by class teachers. We use a range of teaching and learning styles to promote, enhance and develop the Learning for Life objectives across all subject areas, including the implementation of further promotion of Fundamental British Values.
In EYFS, Learning for life is an integral part of the curriculum and lessons relating to making relationships, behaviour and developing self-awareness occur on a daily basis. The EYFS curriculum also covers…
- Personal, social and emotional development.
- Communication and language
- Physical development
Year 1 have lessons lasting 1 hour per week and they focus on rules and relationships, friendships and anti-bullying in the autumn term, feelings and relationships in the spring term and road safety in the summer.
In Year 2 the boys begin by developing their understanding and the importance and benefits of rules and relationships, keeping healthy, communities, change and growing up.
We have a whole school target which changes every fortnight. This was added to build and unite the whole school community feel. The boys work together to help meet the targets and achieve something as a team.
In Reception and Years 1 and 2 the boys enjoy new added responsibilities in the playground. Two playground buddies are chosen for every break time and lunch time to help monitor the play in the playground. Their role being to help ensure everyone has something and someone to play with. This is another feature that allows the pupils more ownership and it has had a positive effect on playtimes.
We continue to follow and support many organisations such as ‘Jeans for Genes Day’ and events related to Learning for Life including ‘Anti-Bullying week’ where assemblies, discussions and role play is used to help the boys develop their understanding of this.
At The Falcons School for Boys we believe in addressing the needs of the ‘whole child’. We are dedicated to achieving this through our Learning for Life curriculum and help boys to learn in a happy and enjoyable atmosphere.
