Music

At The Falcons, the boys’ musical learning journey begins right from the very start, when they join the Nursery. It is a practical course that allows pupils to compose, perform and analyse music in various styles from various cultures. The emphasis is on expressive musical activities, singing and playing percussion instruments, leading towards developing an auditory memory bank, improvising, composing and becoming musically literate.

The boys all receive two 30 minute lessons each week as well as singing as a whole school in the weekly celebration assembly. Each year the whole school take part in the Christmas Carol service and annual prize giving service, held at St John the Divine Church, Richmond.

The school offers several extracurricular activities to encourage boys to pursue their musical interests. We have a guitar ensemble led by the guitar teacher. A wind and brass ensemble for boys who are grade one and above, choir and a music theory club. The choir is open to all ages and abilities and they sing a wide variety of music from traditional choral music to popular songs.

The Falcons has an experienced team of visiting peripatetic staff offering instrumental lesson in a variety of instruments including drum kit, piano, guitar, trumpet, violin, clarinet, flute, recorder, and voice. The school organises termly instrumental concerts which allows all boys to perform at whatever stage they are at in their musical development.
